PAUL EGO is a NZ comedy veteran best known for his many years as Team1 Captain on the hit TV comedy panel show '7DAYS'.
A much in-demand live performer, Ego’s rapid wit has seen him described as 'The Master of Improv' and “NZ’s Top Professional Comedian”
When he’s not being himself, Paul is also the voice of ‘Stickman’ for the Pak’nSave supermarket brand.
Although he's now a household comedy name, Ego started his performing life as a singer in a band. He was 18 and they were called 'The Yes Men'. Playing pub and surf club gigs around Auckland in the mid 1980s, Paul was living the dream. Then, he met another dream – her name was Janine, and the night he saw her from the stage was the start of their 30 plus years together. They are together to this day and have two awesome sons.
It was whilst in London for the traditional ‘Kiwi OE’ that Paul tried Standup Comedy for the first time. It was not terrible and he was hooked. Upon returning home to New Zealand in 1995, Paul soon became a regular name on the NZ comedy scene, his quick mind making him a popular MC and improviser.
Paul's radio career began when fellow comedian Jeremy Corbett and his on-air partner Kim Adamson asked Paul to create comedy ideas & characters for their ‘Kim & Corbett Breakfast Show’ on MoreFM. Paul was part of the KaC team for 6 years, during which time the show became the benchmark in entertaining morning radio.
In 2006 Paul left MoreFM to join ‘The Morning Rumble’ on The Rock. Success followed Paul there, with the show winning ‘Best Breakfast Show’ at the NZ Radio Awards four years running.
In 2011 ‘7DAYS’ gave Paul the chance to take a leap of faith from radio to TV. He was Team Captain on the show for over 300 episodes and still appears regularly.
From singing up-front with his band as a teenager, to now being one of the most in-demand comedy stars in NZ, PAUL EGO has always loved performing and still has plenty of gas in the tank.
