PAUL EGO is a NZ comedy veteran, best known for his many years as Team Captain on the hit TV show '7DAYS'. A much in-demand live and corporate comedian, Paul is also a popular guest on TVNZ's 'Have You Been Paying Attention’ and can currently be seen on Season3 of 'TaskMasterNZ'. His rapid wit has seen him described as "The Master of Improv" and "NZ's Top Professional Comedian". Paul’s voice also brings 'Stickman' to life for one of NZ’s largest yellow supermarket chains. When he is not on-stage or TV, Paul is usually at home with his one wife and two sons.
Although he's now a household comedy name, PAUL EGO actually started his performing life as a singer in a band. He was 18 and they were called 'The Yes Men'. Playing pub and surf club gigs around Auckland in the mid 1980s, Paul was living the dream. Then, he met another dream – her name was Janine, and the night he saw her from the stage was the start of their 30 plus years together. They are together to this day and have two awesome boys. Paul tried standup comedy for the first time whilst living in London in the early 1990’s. He was not terrible and he was absolutely hooked. Upon returning home to NZ in 1995, PAUL EGO soon became a regular name on the NZ comedy scene, his quick wit making him a popular MC and improviser. His radio career began when fellow comedian Jeremy Corbett and his on-air partner Kim Adamson asked Paul to come up with comedy ideas & characters for their ‘Kim & Corbett Breakfast Show’ on MoreFM. Paul was part of the KaC team for 6 years, during which time the show became the benchmark in entertaining morning radio. In 2006 Paul left MoreFM to join ‘The Morning Rumble’ on The Rock. Success followed Paul here also, with the show winning ‘Best Breakfast Show’ at the NZ Radio Awards four years running. In 2011 the comedy panel show ‘7DAYS’ gave Paul the chance to take a leap of faith from radio to TV. It was certainly a leap well made, with Paul being a Team Captain on the show for well over 300 episodes. From singing up-front with his band as a teenager, to now being one of the most in-demand comedy stars in the country, PAUL EGO has always loved performing and has still got plenty of gas in the tank.
